Bacterial urinary tract infection (UTI) is one of the most common bacterial infection especially found in women. This is mostly because of the physiological structure of the urinary tract system which makes it more susceptibile for the entry of the bacteria into the system. Once bacteria is entered, it can goes up to the bladder causing cyctitis. Postmenopause women can have increased chance of getting UTI because of the change in vaginal pH favour the residence of common UTI pathogen, usually E. coli. Sexually active women also have higher chance of getting this disease as pathogenice bacteria can contaminate the urethra during sexual activities. However, early signs of UTI can be easily observed so proper medication can start early to resolve the problem. Pain in uraination, frequent and urgency of urination are common signs of UTI. Cloudy, bloody and foul smelling urine are also symptoms that urge a proper treatment. A urinalysis and bacterial culture may sometimes need to verify the type of bacteria causing the UTI and to prescribe a proper antibacterial treatment, however, an emperical prescription is usually successful in treating non cmplicated UTI. Keeping a healthly life style can help in prevent bacterial infection. Enought water intake and practising good toilet hygiene can help in reduce the chance of infection. Building a good immune system through regular exercise and healthy food is always good in fighting any diseases.
